David's team wins

Tonight David's team won a nail biter against the Cleveland Indians. The Twins only had 7 players to the Indians' 9, but it turned out to be an advantage. Jack even played half of one inning in left field for the Twins before he got bored and quit in the middle of the inning. And right after he walked off the field (through the field in front of the pitcher) the batter hit a grounder that went straight to left field and David had to come all the way over from center to field it! 6 year olds, what's a mom to do?

Because there were so few boys, David got to bat 4 times. He popped out to first in the 1st inning to end the inning. In the 2nd inning he hit a line drive double to left field and earned 2 RBI's to end the inning. He didn't bat in the 3rd, but batted twice in the fourth. He had a single and ended up scoring on a steal home. His last at bat he had another single and an RBI, which knocked in the winning run! He was tearing them up at the plate tonight. He said he wished his dad had been there to see him. Unfortunately Rene is away on business earning money for the clan.

On the defensive end of the ball, David did very well. He played center as mentioned above. Then he played second but didn't have any hit to him. He pitched in the 3rd. He allowed 5 runs, but did pretty well. He faced 8 batters: no strikeouts, but one boy hit into a double play, 4 batters had hits and 4 walked. He threw 20 balls and 11 strikes. He seemed to let the walks get to him this time and it affected his pitching. As my dad always said, your body language tells it all. His shoulders would slump and he just didn't seem to want to pitch. But he ended on a happy note when the batter (bases loaded) had a tapper halfway to the mound and David got it and threw it home, but Jordan let it pop out of his mit, so the runner scored the fifth run. That would have been the last out of the inning too. Anyway, David ran off the field laughing and joking with his friends. In the last inning David played 3rd. He had a few throws to him from the catcher trying to tag a runner out. With two outs, a man on 1st and 2nd, the batter hit a grounder to Jordan at Shortstop. Jordan got it and threw it to 3rd to David for the last out of the game! He and Jordan work well together.

It was fun watching him have a good time, especially when I told him that they won! They are so used to losing that they couldn't believe it! It was a fun time.

Thirsty Bear is very proud of his son, David. I, too, wish I had seen the hits.

Great job, David. You too, Jack.

Love and miss you.
