100 Miles Again

Mama Bear's Father and Mother-affectionately known as Nana and Bobo-completed the Katy Flatland Bike Ride.

Our first stop was at 33 miles, then 43, 54, 64, 72, 81, and 89. Our feet were real sore at 54 and 64 but after that we were not bothered. Perhaps all the other pains made the feet pain disappear. Nancy was getting chills in stops 54 and 64 and we were worried about her overheating, but she persevered and nothing happened. The sag wagons were very busy. They were always loaded down with bikes and people. Also, at Simonton, people could take a 17 mile short cut if they wished.

The main problem was the heat and sun. Fortunately the wind was not a factor. Also, lucky for us in the last 11 miles we had some cloud cover that cooled us down for a few minutes.

We were on a 16 mile pace through 54 miles but the heat and stops slowed us down. We finished in 7 hours and 50 minutes. We notice that large groups of cyclers pass us several times throughout the ride. They stop everytime and take longer breaks. We don't stop and just persist at our slower pace, but we stay even with them. Around the last stop or two, they are impressed that we are still around -- by then everyone seems to know everyone else because we have been together for 90 miles.

This may sound crazy, but we enjoyed it and we are proud for doing it. It is one of our annual challenges that we hope to do for a long time.

I am changing my running routine so that I put in my long distances on Fridays. This will free up Saturdays for Nancy and me to ride throughout the year.

We are thankful to the Lord for giving us the health to do what we do.
