Off The Record
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
-1 John 1:9
You have heard the phrase “off the record.” You may have used it.
Usually it’s said in some movie script between two characters in a tense scene. Or you hear some sports figure defending what he said by mentioning that his quotes were “off the record.” Or colleagues at work begging forgiveness because what they said was wrong and “off the record.”
Well, just for the record, when a Christian comes to Christ with a repentant heart and asks for forgiveness for sins…God cleans the slate. He purifies us and makes us clean. The sin never happened. It’s off the record.
Caution…the verse is not a free pass to sin. It is a calling to live righteous and pure.
