Desk Job

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.-Ephesians 6:12

A young recruit found himself being yelled at by the Drill Sergeant. “Now, you will remember my words as your eating dust in Iraq!”

“Iraq,” thought the recruit. The recruit stepped out of line. He foolishly mentioned that his recruiter promised him a desk job.

The Drill Sergeant laughed, got in the recruit’s face and yelled, “That’s what they always say!”

You don’t try out for team to sit on the bench. You don’t interview for a job for the glory of sitting in a cubicle all day. You want in the game. You want to be the feet on the street making things happen.

And any soldier who just wants a desk job…only wants the G.I. Bill. A soldier wants in the fight.

As a Christian, we all have certain gifts and talents. And it may feel like we are on the sidelines. But we are all in fight. We are in a war.

How many of us would have enlisted in God’s army if we had only been promised a desk job?
