Fishing, Falling, and Cooking

Yesterday I went to Texas City for my second annual Cub Scout Fishing Day with the boys -- Eleanor and Rene were present also. Well, it turned out to be a "falling" day for David. It was low tide and the low water had left a slippery algae type growth on the large granite boulders. After about 45 minutes of fishing, David was trying to unhook his line from a rock and he slipped on the algae. He cut his hand in two places on the sharp rock and also the back of his head. None of the cuts were deep but they were ragged from the sharp uneven rock edges. He bled a lot and we were not too sure if he had a concussion or not. He had, understandably so, lost all interest in fishing. So, Rene took him home about 10 AM.

The rest of the day, Eleanor, Jack, and I spent feeding the fish in Galveston Bay. I caught a little croaker like fish, David did also, and Eleanor caught two. For the first time, I watched Jack actually spend two hours doing something without getting bored. Once he caught the fish about 12:30 PM, he stuck with the fishing even as we trying to pack up to leave. That was his second fish to ever catch. Jack did eat two cans of beanie weanies, a candy bar, and lots of other stuff.

Today the Boys were over for their weekly visit and escape (while Eleanor and Rene play softball). Jack prepared, mixed, and cooked a pizza while David did the Jack thing and played video games. In other words, they switched roles this week. However, earlier David did build an Army vehicle with his Erector set.
